The MOZA R12 V2 delivers an excellent balance of power, precision and value for money. Its 12Nm direct drive motor, 21-bit encoder and NexGen 4.0 force feedback provide the strength and steering detail serious sim racers want, while native iRacing 360Hz support adds further fidelity in compatible titles. At just £399, it's a compelling upgrade from entry-level wheelbases and a particularly smart choice for drivers wanting genuinely powerful direct drive performance without paying for a flagship model.

The MOZA R12 V2 Direct Drive Wheelbase combines 12Nm peak torque, exceptionally detailed 21-bit steering feedback and MOZA's NexGen 4.0 force feedback system in a compact aluminium housing. At £399, it offers a significant upgrade over entry-level wheelbases, with ample torque for demanding GT, formula and endurance racing without the expense of a higher-output direct drive motor.

12Nm Direct Drive Torque – The Step Up from Entry-Level Wheels

The R12 V2 uses a direct drive servo motor rather than belts or gears to reproduce the steering forces generated by your racing simulator. With a 12Nm peak torque rating, it can deliver heavier steering loads and more force-feedback headroom than lower-powered bases, while retaining subtle information around the centre of the wheel. More headroom means you can run sensible force-feedback settings without strong effects overwhelming every smaller change in tyre grip.

For many drivers, 12Nm is a useful balance between strength, detail and day-to-day usability. It is powerful enough to warrant a rigid cockpit, but it does not require running at its maximum output to be enjoyable. The best results generally come from matching the base's strength to the chosen car, simulation and driver preference rather than simply selecting the highest possible force.

High-Performance Servo Motor and Reduced Cogging

MOZA's updated motor incorporates an asymmetric segmented skew rotor and an 18-slot, 16-pole configuration, both designed to reduce magnetic cogging and torque ripple. Cogging is the small resistance that can be felt as a motor moves between magnetic positions; reducing it helps the wheel turn more naturally and makes delicate force-feedback signals easier to interpret.

MOZA also describes the R12 V2 motor as using optimised copper windings, high-permeability core materials and low back-electromotive-force characteristics. These are engineering choices intended to preserve useful torque response as wheel speed changes, particularly during rapid countersteering and direction changes.

21-Bit Magnetic Encoder for Fine Steering Resolution

A 21-bit magnetic encoder measures steering position across 2,097,152 positions per revolution. This is far finer than the mechanical resolution of typical entry-level hardware and gives the control system highly detailed position information for interpreting small movements and quick corrections.

High encoder resolution is only one part of force-feedback quality; motor design, software filtering and the racing simulation itself are equally important. The R12 V2 combines these elements to produce a controlled and informative steering response rather than relying on peak torque figures alone.

NexGen 4.0 Force Feedback and Native iRacing 360Hz Support

The R12 V2 uses MOZA's NexGen 4.0 Force Feedback Algorithm, with configurable filtering and response settings available in MOZA Pit House. This gives drivers scope to adjust damping, steering weight and road-feel characteristics to suit everything from nimble formula cars to heavier GT machinery.

Native iRacing 360Hz force feedback support allows compatible software and firmware to use higher-frequency feedback updates, helping communicate smaller variations in steering load and road surface. The effect will depend on the simulation and your settings; 360Hz compatibility should not be confused with the separate 1000Hz USB refresh-rate specification.

Carbon-Fibre-Wrapped Rotor and Intelligent Thermal Control

Inside the housing, MOZA employs a carbon-fibre-wrapped rotor intended to improve protection and minimise eddy-current losses. An intelligent temperature-monitoring system works alongside the aluminium housing and integrated cooling fins to manage operating temperatures during longer racing sessions.

This matters because consistent force feedback across a lengthy race is more valuable than a strong initial output that quickly fades. MOZA specifies the thermal design for dependable running, although actual temperature behaviour will depend on ambient conditions, mounting and the intensity of use.

MOZA Pit House and Convenient Software Tuning

MOZA Pit House is the configuration centre for wheelbase settings, firmware updates and compatible MOZA accessories. It offers ready-made profiles for popular racing titles as well as fine adjustments to the strength, response and feel of the steering. Supported mobile-app and cloud-based functions add convenient ways to manage settings as your simulator develops.

The R12 V2 also provides Hands-Off Protection, designed to detect an unattended, oscillating steering wheel and reduce unwanted motion. This is an extra software precaution, not a substitute for securely mounting the wheelbase or keeping hands and loose objects clear of a high-torque motor.

Compact Aluminium Construction and Mounting

Despite its force output, the R12 V2 measures approximately 225.87 × 156.68 × 123.99mm and weighs 7.5kg. Its aerospace-grade aluminium alloy enclosure, compact motor design and finned exterior make it suitable for a rigid aluminium-profile sim rig without taking up excessive space around the steering column.

The standard installation uses a four-hole bottom mounting pattern. MOZA also specifies front mounting provision for an optional compatible bracket, while a desk clamp is sold separately. Always check the hole pattern, hardware length and available clearance before installing the base.

For an aluminium-profile simulator, consider pairing the R12 V2 with the UPSHIFT R-PRO 80×40 or R-MAX 160×40. Both are designed for direct drive equipment; confirm the precise mounting configuration and any required adaptor hardware for your chosen wheel plate.

Compatible MOZA Wheels and Accessories

The base uses MOZA's quick-release system and supports compatible MOZA steering wheels, including formula and round-rim options. Multiple connections are provided for supported peripherals: pedals, dashboard, shifter, handbrake and emergency stop, in addition to power and USB connections.

That allows you to build a consistent MOZA-based simulator or combine the R12 V2 with other supported PC peripherals. MOZA steering wheels and controls are sold separately; this listing is for the standalone wheelbase.

PC and Racing Game Compatibility

The R12 V2 is intended for Windows PC sim racing. MOZA lists support for titles including iRacing, Assetto Corsa, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Automobilista 2, rFactor 2, RaceRoom, EA SPORTS F1 titles, DiRT Rally 2.0 and Forza Horizon, subject to game-specific compatibility and configuration.

Console compatibility should not be assumed. MOZA lists PC as the R12 V2's supported platform; this standalone wheelbase does not provide guaranteed PlayStation or Xbox compatibility. Check the manufacturer's current support guidance before purchasing for a console.
